Maddie - Counselor
I live in Beaufort, South Carolina, and attend Community Bible Church. I'm studying to become a biblical counselor through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC).
I was born in Ethiopia and raised in the Orthodox Church. When I was 13, my siblings and I were placed for adoption. The orphanage we stayed at was a Christian orphanage. I heard the gospel of Jesus Christ for the first time in my life. Deep in my heart I was empty and I knew something was missing from my Orthodox beliefs. I was not sure where I was headed if I died and that scared me the most. When they shared with me about Jesus and what He did for me I prayed and accepted Jesus Christ at the age of 13.
A few months later my parents came and picked my siblings and me up from the orphanage and we came to America. On February 3, 2008, my first birthday in America, I was baptized. Since then my life has changed dramatically. I believe there is a reason why God brought me to America and I want to tell every person I meet the story of what God has done in my life and what he has done for them. I am blessed and beyond humbled to be called a child of Jesus Christ.
I'm so excited and humbled that I was called to serve at Alpine this summer. I love working with teenagers and kids, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and telling people what He has done in my life. That is the main reason I'm studying to become a biblical counselor and I thought this would be a wonderful way to put what I am learning into action. I'm looking forward to seeing how God is going to use me at the camp and what He's going to teach me about myself. I'm really excited to see what God is going to do this summer in my life and how He is going to use this camp to change me and allow me to pour that growth into others.
