One of the top ten best whitewater rivers in the world is right here in West Virginia! Boasting over 100 rapids, including ten that are class V or V+ rapids, it’s no wonder the Gauley River is called “The Beast of the East.” On select dates every fall, the Summersville Dam releases guaranteed ideal water flows, thus providing “Gauley Season.”
With over 40 years of whitewater rafting experience, Alpine remains the only licensed Christian rafting company on the beautiful Gauley River. Your guide will endeavor to provide a safe, fun, impacting adventure. Like every outdoor activity at Alpine, rafting the Gauley includes a devotional time when your guide will apply the truth of God’s word.
Previous rafting experience is recommended for the Upper Gauley. For less extreme whitewater, check out the New River.

Learn about the wonder and beauty of God’s creation underground!
Caving
-
See how dark total darkness really is! Alpine uses “wild caves”—no lighted walkways or stairs. Equipped with a helmet and headlamp, you will walk, climb, roll, and crawl through a wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites. Discover salamanders and other underground wildlife and test the natural acoustics with a group song!
The unique environment of twisting passageways and massive formation rooms provides many object lessons that can illustrate spiritual truths. From Matthew’s Gospel through Revelation, the Bible refers to Jesus Christ and His followers as Light. Your youth group, church group, or Christian school class will understand this metaphor as never before during an educational trip through the cave with Alpine Adventures.

Rappelling
-
Rappelling, a controlled descent down a rope, is a powerful, unforgettable activity that teaches you to “lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). This outdoor adventure will stretch the mental and physical limits of your group!
Stepping off the edge takes faith that the rappel system is trustworthy and safe. Both teens and adults come to grips with what true Christian faith looks like while rappelling on the spectacular cliffs of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. A Bible devotional time with your qualified guide gives your school group, youth group, or church group the chance to grow closer to God.
